Tips to match primer with home paint

Primer is very important for home painting. Despite choosing the most expensive or the most beautiful topcoat colors, the house will not look as good as it should if not using primers or choosing the wrong types of primers. So, pay attention to the importance of primers and how to pair primers with multiple topcoat paints which many people have never known before

Why are primers very important?

Can’t primers be applied?

Here are three reasons why primers are important. So, do not lose sight of it.

สีรองพื้น สำคัญอย่างไร

1. Primer helps with adhesion. It is as important as glue.

Primer has an important component: glue. Primer painting is required before the topcoat. It is like applying glue to paper for adhesion to the surface. Without primers, the topcoat will not adhere well to the walls of houses and there is a chance that the paint will peel off early.

2. Primer is as important as a bodyguard. It prevents spotting.

The cement for home building usually has spotting on the surface. So, a primer is important for the prevention of spots to directly come out to the topcoat. Without a primer, the painted walls will then form salt stains and may result in repainting.

3. Primer saves on topcoat painting.

Cement-concrete walls are porous materials. This makes them absorb colors well. However, it does not mean that the colors will become beautiful. In contrast, the more color absorption it is, the less color shade will come out. So, primer painting before the topcoat reduces the ability to absorb colors of cement walls, resulting in the paint on topcoat quickly showing different color shades. The walls become beautiful after just only 2-3 times of painting.

After understanding the importance of primers, let’s see how to choose the primer. This is because there are new plaster primers, old plaster primers and multi-purpose primers.

How to choose a primer

To choose a primer, observe the wall features. What does it look like? Newly plastered? Being left for spotting to come out less than 30 days? The wall may be plastered or painted for too long. So, the primer must be chosen appropriately according to 3 types as follows:

1. New plaster wall, newly built houses - Use a new plaster primer

A new plaster primer is developed for use in newly built houses. Start plastering and let the plaster spots to completely come out for a period of 30 days. The main function is being alkali, as a full name ““New Plaster of Alkali Resisting Primer”” next to the packaging.

2. Old Walls, long time-built houses, painted before or chalk dusts – Use old plaster primer paint or old plaster primer liquid

To be called correctly according to the features of this primer, it must be “old plaster primer liquid” because it is clear oil and it smells. If called “old plaster primer paint,” shops or painters generally understand them, too. A distinctive feature of old plaster primer paint is its excellent penetration and adhesion to the surface, which helps to lock down deteriorating chalk dusts or film paint particles film, so that they are attached to the surface without peeling off.

3. Multipurpose primer suitable for urgent home painting

Multi-purpose primer is designed for houses not under the above 2 conditions, whether or not they are new plaster houses, being plastered for a few days and unable to wait for spotting to come off for 30 days or old plaster walls to be painted quickly before the rainy days to be painted. These cases can use a multi-purpose primer very well. However, it can be used for old plaster walls when considering plaster surfaces. If it doesn't deteriorate too much, a multi-purpose primer can be used as well.
