Amphawa Project, The Color of Sustainability

On November 24, 2010, TOA Paint (Thailand) Public Company Limited signed the agreement on cooperation with Amphawa District Municipality to work with the government sector - - Tourism Authority of Thailand, Amphawa Community and owners of buildings, aiming to implement the rehabilitation project and repaint commercial buildings located in the market surrounding Amphawa Canal in order to increase the value and better explain the meaning of the community as the World Cultural Heritage. For this project, TOA Paint (Thailand) Public Company Limited supported and supervised the commercial building painting process in the community market covering an area of over 14,500 square meters with the total budget of more than two million baht.
To select paints for building exteriors, TOA Paint (Thailand) Public Company Limited took magnificence and durability into account. Thus, the Company chose SuperShield, as the paint is durable for over 10 years. Furthermore, to renovate building surfaces, the Company renovated the building surfaces by using more than   10 products for surface preparation, prime coat painting and top coat painting.

The process of designing colors for Amphawa Market was based upon correct principles, starting from surveying former colors, searching for historical data, using suitable colors for the place, drawing color structure and testing and painting the real buildings with designed color structure. In addition, the paints were tested under sunlight, and the variations of colors were tested during different times of day. When the color structure was clearly summed up, it was classified into seven color sets by creating more than 20 colors to allow building owners and residents to choose the best colors for their businesses.

To balance the chosen colors in terms of freshness and weights, TOA Paint (Thailand) Public Company Limited has implemented the chroma comparison system and color weights (blackness – whiteness) based upon Natural Color System (NCS), and the Company has tested these colors under lighting in the exact locations of the commercial buildings.
